This is a vintage original menu from MANDARIN HOUSE, a chinese restaurant opened in the late 1950’s and owned by Emily Kwoh. Mandarin House was located at 133 West 13th St In the Village in New York City. They also had another location called Mandarin East at 1085 2nd Ave.
There is a stapled yellow ad with phone numbers for Delivery.
Front is orange with door design and says “Mandarin House” with Mandarin symbols in panels.
Front page splits in 2 and opens up to 3 sections. Middle section is Mandarin House Specialties, and has an extra page stapled in with Mandarin East specialties.
Measures 13” x 10 1/2” closed.
This was one of the earliest Mandarin style Chinese restaurants introducing many of these dishes to patrons in New York. Also, “a 1967 article in The New York Times states that one of the first restaurateurs to serve Moo Shu Pork in Manhattan was Emily Kwoh, the owner of the Mandarin House, Mandarin East, and Great Shanghai restaurants” seen here on this menu as “Moo Sue Juo” for $2.50!
