Some history:
The New York Seabury Investigation, also called the Seabury Commission, was a significant inquiry led by Judge Samuel Seabury in the 1930’s. It aimed to uncover rampant corruption and ties between organized crime mobs, and various elements of New York City's government and law enforcement. The investigation revealed deep-rooted links between criminal gangs, political figures, and police officers, exposing a network of bribery, extortion, and collusion. As a result of the investigation's revelations, several officials were removed from their positions, and reforms were initiated to combat corruption and disrupt the influence of organized crime within the city. The widespread and shocking exposures reached their climax with the cross-examination (and resignation) of Mayor Jimmy Walker by Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt.
