Signed by Ludwig Schumacher and inscribed to his cousin George Frederick Heydl with the date March 18, 1901.

Newspaper Obituary pasted into blank page in beginning, and includes information about Ludwig Schumacher’s life as well as details about his upcoming funeral service on Tuesday, April 2, 1901.

Personal letter pasted inside of back cover, which folds open, and describes Ludwig Schumacher’s failing health by his brother to the cousin and proposed recipient of the book. The book was to be delivered two months prior to Ludwig Schumacher’s death, and this is written in the letter. His death date is written at the bottom of the letter.

Book is 143 pages.

Measures 7 3/4” x 5 1/4”.

Some history:

Ludwig Schumacher was a teacher of Morristown and the recipient of the honorary degree of Master of Arts by Hobart College. He published two notable books in his lifetime, the one described here, and “Major-General, the Earl of Stirling”. He passed away on March 30, 1901, around the age of 40.

CONDITION:

Excellent vintage, preowned condition. Hardback cover has slight scratches and indent markings from usage. Sticker remnant evident on inner cover page. Edges of cover and binding has slight discoloration from age. Pages and illustrations are clean with discoloration from age. Obituary and letter are intact and in good condition.
