PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS
ROCKY STATUE / SYLVESTER STALLONE Cover Story
This is a rare, complete, original newspaper from Thursday December 11, 1980, introducing Philadelphians to the now iconic ROCKY STATUE which would grace the art museum during the filming of “Rocky III”.
It mentions the sculptor and film producer presented the statue to the Fairmount Park Commission and were awaiting approval to use the statue at the Art Museum for the movie filming.
The article also speaks of Sylvester Stallone’s proposition of donating the 12-foot high statue of himself as Rocky Balboa to the city of Philadelphia after the filming....
Features a photo of the statue on the front page with “Yo, Rocky”, along with another feature on Wilt Chamberlain headlined “Yo, Wilt”. Main headline in center is “Bus Rider Killed By Hatchet”.
Amazing, scarce piece of history, and the first historic glimpse and mention of the ROCKY STATUE!
Great for framing and display.
